Sony Doubles my PS3’s Functionality for Free

PS3 Xross Media Bar

Sony is going to release a monumental update, firmware version 2.0, for the PS3, bringing many of the most-desired features of the current owners to life. Many such features added have been available on the PSP for a long time, so it is a wonder why they didn’t come on the PS3 to begin with, such as RSS Channels (podcasts), dynamic normalizer, and custom wallpapers. One of the most notable features in this update, however, is XMB access in-game, which, presumably, means custom music during game, access to the internet through the web browser without having to losing progress, and messaging with friends without leaving the game. I’m especially excited about this update, because it brings the PS3 out of the “test” stages for early adopters, and into the full, ready-for-mass-consumption stage. Only now does the PS3 equal, or even surpass the Xbox 360.

UPDATE: Sony is denying the existence of such an update.

I wouldn’t say so. It still lacks a lot needed for an equal gaming experience as the Xbox 360. The PS3 remains a more impressive media device rather than a game system, and even so not enough to suit its massive price.

Unless you really want blu-ray, in which case, it’s a great deal!
But yeah, it is pretty weak game-wise.
