The internets have been abuzz with news of Apple’s new ultra-thin, ultra-mobile laptop, the MacBook Air. I have been holding out to get a new computer until after MacWorld, where I was expecting Apple to refresh their aging MacBook Pro line. However, since Apple didn’t make any updates to it, I went ahead and splurged on the cheaper 15″ model. It is beautiful, and my only real complaint with it is the keyboard, as I much prefer the MacBook (and now MacBook Air style), but that wasn’t enough to keep me waiting another 6 months for the next MacWorld to roll around. But now, sources are reporting that Apple is near refreshing the Pro line, which was not announced at MacWorld for the sole reason that all of Apple’s resources were needed to get the Air out the door on time. So, although I love my MacBook Pro, I can’t help but feel a bit of remorse for not waiting. I can, however, take solace in the fact that I am not the first person this has happened to (in fact, I know several people in the same situation right now), and customers are often disappointed when Apple refreshes products they just purchased.
Also, on a similar note, I’ve found myself poking my EEE’s screen, and making pinching movements on my MacBook Pro’s trackpad after getting so used to multi-touch on my iPod Touch. Apple, stop taunting me.
You’re not the only person who finds themselves pinching and unpinching the screen of an Apple laptop, in a vain emulation of iPhone. I was absolutely certain we would get a tablet at MacWorld for that reason, since I’m sure Steve does the same thing.
I don’t think his Multi-Touch trackpad is a good substitute, but then again I have not yet tried it. I’ll have to just see how it works on the Air.
I think you have about a two week window where they will take your MacBook Pro back and give you a new model, so I guess you should really hope the new MacBook comes soon …
D
I know about the turnaround period, I’ve got until Sunday. I’m pretty happy with my purchase though, I think I’ll stick with it. ^_^
That’s a stupid comment to make that Apple is known for screwing over their customers. Their satisfaction ratings are always high in every survey I’ve seen. Just because you didn’t have the patience to wait doesn’t mean they were out to “screw” you. Grow up.
“I know several people in the same situation right now), and Apple is known for screwing over their customers.”
And an even greater number think that there are far too many a**holes in this world.
“Apple rubs it in my face”
That happens a lot to a**holes.
Also, apple has gotten out of the habit of releasing speed bump machines at MacWorlds. They usually wait till a month or so after a show to refresh the product lines. MacWorld and WWDC are for Software announcements and for new cool products. So yeah, you should have waited
Hey, I love Apple. And when I say I love Apple, I mean I love it so much that I’d marry it and have lots of little Apple babies if given the chance. I’ll kiss Steve’s foot if I were ever to meet him. I’ll admit, “screwing” came out a bit strong, but it was not meant rudely, just as a jokingly, matter-of-fact thing. Especially because of what it links to. It does give the wrong idea, but I am in no way angry at Apple. People buy their products right before a refresh all the time, it’s just what Apple does. I’m sorry for angering some of you, but if you read that over again, you’ll see it’s not really that only the last three words seem relatively rude.
Same with the title, it was completely joking.
I will correct this, because apparently the one word is causing people to miss the point of the article.
This site may help to avoid the above, for those who have not seen it yet.
I’ve seen it, but I’ve been waiting since last summer (as per its advice), and I finally got fed up with waiting and just went for it.
hey any word yet on when the new pro line body style may come out? im hearing june as of yesterday….sold my macbook and i really think i should wait. i definetly would appreciate a ligher design because i lug the laptop everywhere. HELP!!
Your guess is as good as mine, but may I suggest a MacBook Air and (high-end) Mac Mini combo for keeping light on the go while keeping a decent computer around?
